After nine seasons, How I Met Your Mother wrapper last May with a finale that left the majority of fans disappointed. In the DVD set, show creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas show fans what could have been with the finale’s alternate ending.

In How I Met Your Mother’s finale, it’s revealed that “The Mother” aka Tracy, played by Cristin Milioti, dies. Her death had been alluded two in a pair of previous episodes, though many had held out hope that the show had not been built around a character who was to die from the beginning of the narration.

Furthermore, Milioti made Tracy an incredibly likeable character, one who made perfect sense for Josh Radnor’s Ted. Not only having Tracy die, but having Ted and Robin reunite several years later was the second blow to a fandom that had thought Ted had grown out of that fantasy with Robin and had found the enduring love he’d been searching for with Tracy.

How I Met Your Mother’s alternate ending sees Ted, Tracy, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), Marshall (Jason Segel), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) catching up at McLaren’s. When Lily muses about Ted’s arduous road to finding happiness with Tracy, Ted launches into a rundown of all the events that led to their meeting,

Ted starts off saying that in order for it to happen he had to, “get out of the apartment a couple of hours” for Marshall to propose to Lily. He also had to “Get beat up by a goat… teach the wrong class…” After Robin and Barney’s wedding, he had to take off at the exact right time so he could meet the “beautiful girl under a yellow umbrella.”

“Funny how sometimes, you just find things,” says Ted, adding, “and that kids, is how I met your mother.” (Source)

Binge-watching is an epidemic, one not limited to college campuses or even high schoolers experimenting for the first time. People everywhere with real careers, mortgages, and grown-up lives have been afflicted. Forget doctors—it’s time for celebrities to step in.

EW rounded up stars from some binge-watching favorites—from Orange is the New Black to Parks and Recreation—to remind you that binging can have harmful effects on everything from your self-esteem to your social life. And if you do choose to binge, follow our tips about best practices. As Oscar Wilde once said, “everything in moderation, including moderation.” (He was probably talking about cucumber sandwiches or something, but let’s pretend it was Lost.) Take a look below:

Joss Whedon, lauded king of fandom, and de facto overseer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, celebrates his 50th birthday today (June 23). Whedon’s always had a knack for taking pre-established characters – whether it’s The Avengers or a gang of talking toys or the cast of Speed – and making them just that bit more quippy and emotionally rich and awesome. But it’s his original small-screen characters that remain his most beloved.

Digital Spy complied a list of the top fifteen Whedonverse characters:

#7 – Willow Rosenberg
No character in Buffy goes unchanged, but the transformation of Alyson Hannigan’s Willow from meek, overlooked wallflower to scarily self-possessed makes her easily the most dynamic of the core players.

The early potential for Dark Willow is explored in two of the show’s best episodes of all time – ‘The Wish’, which portrays an apocalyptic future in which Willow is a vampire, and ‘Doppelgangland’, in which vampire Willow comes to regular Sunnydale – and the contrast worked so well that Willow herself gradually moved in a darker direction as she grew unhealthily dependent on her magic, unable to maintain any confidence without it. While many viewers were left feeling nostalgic for the loveable, quirky Willow of the early seasons, her progression is a testament to how disinterested Whedon and his co-writers always were in playing it safe.

Willow was also a touchstone for Buffy‘s broader cultural significance, being one of the first major TV characters to have an openly gay relationship. Willow and Tara were treated in exactly the same way as any other romance on the show, and given how rare this still is in mainstream television, it feels all the more powerful in retrospect.
